Shorter Conversations
The heart behind this series can be found in my belief that the Westminster Shorter Catechism is a very devotional document. You might expect confessions and catechisms to be dry, lifeless documents - but that couldn’t be further from the truth. While they are designed to help us know and worship the God we love - the chief end of a catechism is, after all, to glorify God and enjoy Him forever!
What’s more, is this - I’ve found great joy in talking through the Shorter Catechism questions with my children. It's been a great way to think about who we are and who God is, and it’s provided fun discussion for our family around the dinner table.
For these reasons, my desire is to provide first a brief explanation of the catechism answers, primarily by looking at some of the proof texts that are associated with them. Then, to provide a “kid’s corner” with questions and thoughts that I’ve used with my kids around the dinner table. To be clear, I don’t give my kids the exposition, just the questions! When possible, I'll provide my children's answers to these questions!
My prayer is that these entries would encourage you to catechize your kids, but even more that it would help you to enjoy your kids, enjoy the process, and enjoy God.
